DeNami Design: Under The Sea Fun!

Hi Everyone! Elizabeth here with another fun card for DeNami Designs! This weeks theme is the beach but I decided to take it a step further and make a fun under the sea card! Lately I have been trying different techniques and combining them together. This card combines ink blending and watercoloring! I love how this card came out!

I will tell you upfront that this card is more involved than most of my cards and it took me about 2 hours to create it. I blame all the fussy cutting! For this card, I stamped out all of my images, and a few extra, onto some Inkadinkado masking paper using a black dye ink. You can use any ink that you have on hand and if you don’t have masking paper you can use post it tape. I fussy cut out all of the images, which if you know me, I hate fussy cutting but it was worth it for this card! Next, I created my scene by placing the masks on Bristol Smooth white cardstock. I did some ink blending over the masks using a variety of Distress Inks (see supplies list below for colors) to create the sand at the bottom of the sea and the water. At first, I was applying the ink using the circle motion but the edge of my masks kept coming up so I switched to pouncing instead and I love the results that I got! After I finished the ink blending, I spritzed the panel with some water from my Distress sprayer and let it set for about 20 seconds and then picked up the water with a paper towel. I removed the masks and my sea animals were mostly clean so that I could watercolor them. Before I colored them in I die cut my panel with the largest die from the Simon Says Stamp Stitched Rectangle Die set. Next, I colored them in using Mini Distress Inks as my watercolor with a water brush. After I colored them I adhered the panel to a top folding A2 card base with Tombow Extreme Adhesive. To finish the card, I add some glitter with a Spectrum Noir clear sparkle pen on top of all the sea animals and sea shells. It’s very hard to photograph the sparkle you get the from glitter from the glitter pens but I promise you, it’s there and it’s gorgeous!

I hope my card inspires you to try a new technique and combine techniques to create some fabulous cards! Until next time!

DeNami Designs Sneak Peek #4: Outdoor Adventure!

Hi Everyone! Welcome to day 4 of DeNami’s Sneak Peek Week on my blog! The theme for today is Outdoor Adventures. For this project I decided to do a nice simple card. As you can tell, I like simple cards that don’t take long to make!

Ever since I found the best cardstock for ink blending, I have been obsessed with ink blending! For me the best cardstock is Strathmore Bristol Smooth. The smooth surface really allows the ink to go on easy and blend easily as well. Now, I have not tried ink blending with other inks besides the Distress Inks but I have a feeling this cardstock will work well with other inks. To create this card, I stamped the owl with Simon Says Stamp Intense Black Ink and very, very carefully blended the sky and grass background around the owl. In hind sight I should have created a mask for the owl and then did the ink blending but I REALLY hate to fussy cut and I was being lazy. After I blended the background, I sprayed it with the Distress Sprayer filled with water and picked up the water with a clean paper towel to get the splatter effect. Next, I colored in the owl with Copic markers and stamped the greeting in Simon Says Stamp Intense Black ink. After that, I die cut the panel with a Mama Elephant Framed Tags Madison Avenue frame die and kept the frame piece to layer the yellow polka dot frame on top of to add a little dimension to the card. I adhered the frames with Tombow Lquid Gel glue to the A2 card base and used Tombow Extreme Adhesive for the panel. This card will make anyone smile! See you tomorrow!

DeNami Design Sneak Peek Day 1: All About Owls

Hi Everyone!

Welcome to the first day of DeName Design Sneak Peek Week! Today the theme is “All About Owls”! If you have been following DeNami you know that she makes the most adorable owls. I love her owls and the designs that she comes up with are so unique and her style is so cute!

For my project, I decided to use the new Medium Birthday Owl! He is so cute holding the balloon and wearing his party hat! I wanted to make something really colorful and do I different technique for my background. The background of my card is made with Distress inks and I applied them with the Mini Ink Blender Tool(see the supply list below for the colors that I used) on to Strathmore Bristol Smooth cardstock. After I blended my background, I took a Heidi Swapp Stencil that had small dots and placed it over my blended panel and sprayed it with water. I dabbed it with a paper towel after about 30 seconds a lifted the stencil and dabbed the whole panel with the paper towel to make sure that I got all of the water off the panel. I ran the panel through my Sizzix Big Shot with the Simon Says Stamp largest Stitched Rectangle die. For the owl, I stamped him Memento Tuxedo Black Ink and colored him with Copic markers (see below in the supply list for the colors used). I ran him through my Sizzix Big Shot with the second largest Simon Says Stamp Stitched Circle die and to trim the edge I ran it again with the Stitched Rectangle Die so that I would keep that stitched border. After that I added Glossy Accents to the ballon and set it aside to dry while I worked on the rest of the card. For the sentiment I kept it simple and used happy birthday. For the banners, I used all 3 of the Lawn Fawn Everyday Sentiment Banners. I stamped the sentiment on the green banner and made sure that I staggered the banners coming in the from side. Lastly, I adhered everything using my Tombow tape runner onto an A2 card base. For the envelope, I stamped the small Birthday Owl in Lawn Fawns Mermaid dye ink.

“Fight Like A Girl” Card Featuring The Crazy Bird Stamps From Tim Holtz

Hi Everyone! Last week I got a special request from a friend for a “Fight Like A Girl” card. I started brainstorming and I couldn’t stop thinking about the Tim Holtz Crazy Bird stamp set from Stampers Anonymous and super heroes. Just one problem, there isn’t any super hero accessories in the Crazy Accessories stamp set. But that didn’t stop me! I decided to make my own accessory and draw on a cape and add some eyelashes to make the bird look more girly. I have to say that I just love my little girl super hero bird! Below is a link to my Youtube video of how I made the card. This is my first card making video so please forgive the pauses!
