Newton’s Nook Inky Paws Challenge #22 – Birthday

Hi everyone! One of my favorite companies, Newton’s Nook, is having another Inky Paws Challenge! The theme of the challenge is birthday, which is perfect since I only have 2 birthday sets from them. My goal is to have all the cute cat sets but for now I just have 2.

I decided for the challenge to utilize both of my sets which are Birthday Bash and Birthday Flutter. Also, I used a die set from Taylored Expressions called Color Block Cutting Plate. This die set comes with 11 dies! Don’t let the number scare you! I only used 3 of the dies from the set; the large main die and 2 of the smaller dies.

To make the card I ran the large main die through my Sizzix Big Kick twice, once with yellow card stock and once with Copic quality card stock. Then I used the scallop die with green paper and the smaller die with white card stock. I stamped my images using Memento Black Ink and colored them with Copic markers. For the balloons, I stamped several balloons onto Post-it Tape and cut them out to create masks. I used the masks to create the layers look of the balloons. Also, I used my clear Wink of Stella Marker to add some sparkle to the balloons. Unfortunately, you can’t see it in the picture but I promise it is there! To stamp the greeting, I used Versafine Black ink because it makes a nice crisp impression. Assembling the card is the easy part! First, I adhered the yellow frame to my white card base using my Zig Glue Pen. Be careful that everything is straight so that your pieces will fit in their spots. Next, I adhered all the pieces into the their spots using my ATG gun.

I loved making this card! I hope that it inspires you to combine stamp sets together and even companies together to create awesome cards!

Newton’s Nook Design: Inky Paws Challenge #20

Hi Everyone! This week I am participating in the Newton’s Nook Design Inky Paw Challenge. This weeks challenge is to create a card based off the sketch that they provide. You have to use at least one of their stamp designs in your card. For my card I decided to make a birthday card using the Newton’s Birthday Bash Set. Below is the picture of the sketch to follow. Click here for more information on the Inky Paws Sketch Challenge.

To start the card I cut a 2.5″ square from 110lb Michaels white card stock. I have a lot of scraps so I try to use those first. After picking out my image and greeting, I stamped them on the square using Memento Black ink because I used Copic Markers for coloring. Both of my cats are orange so I colored the kitty to be orange. To get the lighter orange on the chest, I used my colorless blender being careful not to apply to much. When using the colorless blender I recommend going over the area once then letting it dry before going over it again. Repeat this until you get desired color. The colorless blender is is also great if you accidentally go outside to the lines while coloring because you can push the color back. For the cheeks I used a white Signo Uniball pen and made three little dots.

After coloring I cut the rest of the pieces that I needed to make the card. All of the paper is from my stash but I did find the pattern online and provided a link for it. I was shocked to find the paper because I bought it from a store before it went of business 2 years ago. The solid card stock is all from Michaels. I decided that I want the card to be a top folding card so I cut the card base to be 4.25″x11 and scored it at 5.5″. The main panel of card is the pattern paper which I cut to 4.0″x5.25″. For the banners I found some scraps that coordinate with the pattern paper. The twine is also from my stash but I have no idea where I got it. You can use any color twine that will go with your card.

Now it’s time to assemble your card! First I adhered the banner pieces to pattern paper using my ATG gun. Next, I tied my twine in a bow around the pattern paper and made sure the bow was over the banners. I decided to leave the tails of the bow long instead of trimming them to be short. After that I adhered the square panel using the Scotch Foam Tape to give some dimension. The last step is to adhere the panel to the card base using the ATG gun.

Your card is complete! I hope that you enjoyed today’s post! Don’t forget to visit Newton’s Nook Design Blog for more information about the Inky Paws Challenge.
